The strange sounding name of Barmagachan simply means "The Hill of MacGachen." Records show that the name existed as far back as the early 16th Century.

How to find us. Borgue village is well signposted from Kirkcudbright and from the A75 in the Gatehouse of Fleet area. Once in the village turn up the hill at the T-junction past the church on the road signposted to Carrick. After approximately ½-mile the road forks. Take the right fork and continue for just over ½-mile more and Barmagachen Farm is on the roadside.
